Vhils’ Art Is More Than Scratching The Surface

by DS

i was completely moved by the haunting images of vhils aka alexandre farto, a young graffiti artist from portugal whose show, scratching the surface, is currently being featured at the lazarides gallery in london’s rathbone place. vhils has moved beyond conventional street art mediums, creating his imagery from torn billboard advertising, etching into metal and chiseling his work directly into walls.

the show even comes complete with a full-scale cast of part of a tube train: a collaboration with the also very talented ponk from bristol.
